Nachdem Sabine beim Stricktreffen im Aurum am vergangenen Mittwoch Ihr Exemplar des Buches „Victorian Lace Today“ von Jane Sowerby dabei hatte, konnte ich dem Drang nicht länger widerstehen. Dieses Buch musste ich haben! Unbedingt! Amazon.de sei Dank wurde es am nächsten Abend auch sogleich bestellt, und am Wochenende hielt ich das gute Stück dann auch schon in meinen Händen.

Was soll ich sagen?! Das Buch hält, was es verspricht. Ms. Sowerby verknüpft die Geschichte des Spitzenstrickens der Viktorianischen Ära gekonnt mit den für die heutige Zeit aufgearbeiteten Modellen. Alexis Xenakis liefert wie immer atemberaubende Bilder. Zusammen genommen ergibt das ein echtes Schmuckstück, welches man ohne Bedenken einfach nur zum Angucken auf dem Kaffeetisch liegen lassen kann. Das Buch ist für jeden Lace-Begeisterten ein absolutes Muss.

I actually got a chance to catch a glimpse of the one book that has been tempting me for some time now. After browsing through the heavy tome there was no avoiding it any longer – I had to have this book! Thanks to Amazon.de an order was placed quickly and two days later the postman rang.

And what can I say? The book is most wonderful. Ms. Sowerby did a fantastic job bringing together interesting bits and pieces about lace knitting in the Victorian era and up-to-date patterns in an exciting package. As always, Alexis Xenakis does a superb job supplying stunningly beautiful pictures. All in all, this book is worth every single penny and serves easily enough as a true coffee table book knitters and non-knitters alike can enjoy every once in while. Not to mention all those patterns that call out to be knitted.
