Micro Cobblestone

Micro Cobblestone Sweater

Micro Cobblestone Sweater

Jared Flood’s Cobblestone Sweater had instantly caught my eye when it first appeared in Interweave Knits magazine’s Fall 2007 issue. It is such a clean design but still offers some interest. And of course I’m a sucker for tweedy yarns, so I fell right for this one 😉 But unfortunately I neither found the yarn nor the time to make this sweater in a adult size. Having a baby boy in the house now rekindled my interest in those clean, non frilly designs again and I got busy with planning this cute little project.

First was the yarn. Back in May Tichiro featured the very interesting Finkhof Merino yarn by the Finkhof cooperative (Schäfereigenossenschaft Finkhof e.V.). This looked like a very good alternative for those lofty Shetland yarns that are hard to come by here in Germany and are also quite expensive. A few days a box full of beautiful, rustic yarn arrived at my doorstep.

To make a pint sized Cobblestone Sweater for little Mr. T I consulted clever old Lady Zimmermann and threw Brooklytweed’s pattern together with EZ’s percentage system. I think the sleeves maybe a tad too tight. And I fudged a bit with the yoke decreases but in the end this sweater turned out quite beautiful. Washing transformed the slightly rough and still lanolin rich fabric into a soft, cozy cloud of sheep goodness. It was a joy to knit and the little guy gets compliments left and right wherever he turns up in his wonderful new sweater 🙂
