Greensleeves Spindle Katherine’s Cup

Am Tag vor meinem Geburtstag ist nach 3 Wochen langer Reise eine neue Spindel bei mir eingezogen. Gemeinsam mit Elizabeth Daily von Greensleeves Spindles habe ich Holz für Wirtel und Schaft ausgesucht und Elizabeth hat die Spindel dann für mich gemacht. Sie ist sehr schön und gut ausbalanciert. Da Ebenholz eine sehr hohe Dichte hat, ist die Spindel ein wenig schwerer als erwartet, aber sie läuft ganz wunderbar. Und die Maserung des Ebenholzes sieht einfach toll aus. Zur Spindel dazu gehört noch eine Butcher’s Crown. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein cleveres, kleines Teil, welches des Haken der Spindel beim Transport vorm Verbiegen schützt.

The day before my birthday a parcel from Provo, Utah arrived after 3 long weeks in the hands of the postal deities and a new spindle moved in with me. Elizabeth Dailey from Greensleeves Spindles was really kind and gave her opinion and experience in choosing woods for this spindle. In the end I decided on Macassar Ebony for the whorl and quite a flashy Yellowheart shaft. The spindle is very nice and turns evenly and very long. The high density of Ebony makes the spindle a tad heavier than I would have expected but that’s not really a fault in a spindle. The marbled black and white coloration looks beautiful. Together with the spindle I ordered a Butcher’s Crown which is a nifty little thing that protects the hook from getting bent all out of shape during transport.
